It’s always exciting to be offered the chance to review a subscription box that I’ve never had the chance to try before. So when Makeup Mixologist asked if they could send me one of their beauty boxes to review, I was thrilled.
So, who and what are Makeup Mixologist?
We are an independent beauty box subscription company. Started by 3 girls with an unhealthy makeup obsession, to provide great value, affordable beauty boxes filled with a large variety of hand picked full sized and travel sized beauty and makeup products.
Beauty Boxes inspired by cocktails! Each handcrafted to match the scent or colour of that months cocktail. Every box comes with a cocktail recipe card and a range of amazing products we know you’ll love! – Official Website
I think this is quite a unique idea, curating a monthly beauty box around a specific cocktail. It’s fun, a little bit quirky and I don’t think anyone else has done this before, so a big thumbs up for the originality.
So, anyway, each month you’ll get a box of products with an average RRP of around £60 at least, judging by their previous boxes. This might consist of 4-8 products depending on individual product prices. You can expect to see the likes of Too Faced, Becca, Laura Mercier, Bare Minerals, Urban Decay, Tarte and more!
Aprils ‘Peony’ cocktail themed Makeup Mixologist box contained 5 product with a total RRP of £70!
Nails Inc Nail Polish RRP £13.00
First up in April’s ‘Peony’ Makeup Mixologist box, is this gorgeous Nails Inc nail polish in this neon pink. A very apt colour and I’ve always found Nails Inc to be a really fab nail polish brand. This is a perfect colour for Spring & Summer! Would look great with a tan on fingers or toes!
Illamasqua Lipstick RRP £20.00
This Illamasqua lipstick is a really lovely pinky coral shade; another fantastic colour for Spring & Summer. I think this may be the first lipstick I’ve tried from Illamasqua but don’t quote me on it. I do know I have never bought one and I don’t think I have ever received one in a beauty box before either. he lipstick formula was really nice, creamy, pigmented and felt nice on the lips. It was a really nice surprise to see it included in this Makeup Mixologist box!
Fruit Fix Almond & Olive Oil Hair Mask RRP £3.50
This was the lowest valued item in the box, a Fruit Fix Almond & Olive Oil Hair Mask by NPW Gifts. Personally, I’m not a huge fan of hair products in my beauty boxes but I know a lot of people do like receiving them. I’m sure this would go down a treat with others.
Real Techniques Mini Brush Trio RRP £12.50
I love Real Techniques brushes and have quite a number of them in my brush collection. This mini brush trio is perfect to keep in your handbag, or for travelling. Be it a weekend away or two week holiday, this brush set would be perfect. Another brand & item that I really loved was included in this months curation.
Too Faced Size Queen Mascara RRP £21.00
Last but by no means least is this Too Faced Size Queen Mascara! It has a BIG brush with dual bristles, designed to lengthen, lift and curl your lashes, for that wide-eyed doll look. Contains Vitamins C, E and B5 to condition and strengthen your lashes as well.
I haven’t been able to try this yet, as I have some issues going on with my eyes right now, that means I can’t wear any makeup on them. However, I’m looking forward to trying it out when I’m able to.
My Overall Thoughts on the April ‘Peony’ Makeup Mixologist Box
I really enjoyed the contents of this box. I think there was supposed to be a cocktail card but I didn’t have that unless it’s changed. There was a printed piece of paper listing the contents and what cocktail the box was themed around. It might have been nice to see a photo of the Peony cocktail, to see the colours etc just as an added touch, so you can reference the product colours and see where that month’s inspiration for the curation came from.
Brand-wise, it was great to see Too Faced, Illamasqua and Real Techniques included.
The total value of the box was £70, which is great as the box itself is £27.50. It is a little bit more pricey than a lot of beauty boxes BUT you are getting better known, high-quality brands, so I think given that, it’s actually really good value.
Looking at their previous month’s boxes, I think this is definitely a winning box for those who really love their make up!
