uOpen recently approached me about working with them and they helped to organise sending me a box from Emmy’s Brigadeiro, a unique Brazilian dessert, to review and share with you guys. I’ve reviewed a lot of different boxes over the past 5 years so it’s always great to find something that is that bit different to the norm.

What Is Emmy’s Brigadeiro?
A gourmet subscription box of traditional sweet Brazilian dessert truffles, Emmy’s Brigadeiro is pretty unique as far as subscription boxes go. The brigadeiros are available in boxes of 4, 12 or 24 and there are 5 different subscription options, including a one-off box. You can also choose from a selection of delicious flavours that will have your mouth watering.
At the same time that I fell in love with my Brazilian husband, I also fell in love with the Brigadeiro. When he introduced me to his group of friends who were mainly Brazilians, I had the opportunity to see that they LOVE partying. One thing came to my attention quickly. There was no party without Brigadeiros. Soon I became a huge fan of them.
It is my mission to introduce this sweet little delicacy to everyone I meet. If you love chocolate and enjoy sweet moments, then you will fall in LOVE with Brigadeiros too!
So, What Exactly Is A Brigadeiro?
Brigadeiros, are in fact traditional Brazilian truffles that are made with condensed milk, butter, cocoa powder, sugar and chocolate. They are often served at parties but honestly, you can have them any time you feel like it.
The word brigadeiro comes from Air Force Brigadier Eduardo Gomes, who was a candidate in their 1946 presidential elections. He didn’t win the election but his favourite Brazilian dessert became extremely popular.
So, let’s take a look at the box that I received courtesy of Emmy’s Brigadeiro and uOpen.
Emmy’s Brigadeiro 12 Box
Price: £18.50 one-off 12 box | £17.50 12 box ongoing monthly subscription
I really liked the packaging of the brigadeiros and thought it looked quite elegant as far as boxes go. The turquoise is such a pretty colour. The brigadeiros fit snugly into the inner container, which is a classy gold. My first impression upon opening was, “Wow, these look beautiful“. I also thought that they would be perfect to send as a gift to someone for any occasion, or simply just because!
Included in the box was also a pretty colour leaflet showing the flavours. So, this made it very easy to identify the different flavours that were in the box. I was sent a selection of dark & milk chocolate, pistachio, milk chocolate with hazelnut, almond, coconut and strawberry chocolate.
I actually don’t eat nuts, so I tried the milk, dark and strawberry chocolate ones and they were incredibly delicious. My partner and his friend tried the nut ones. They both loved them and they were gone within minutes. Needless to say, the three of us gave them a resounding thumbs-up of approval. I’m not sure I can really describe how lovely they were; chocolatey, creamy and full of flavour. Just so lovely, honestly. If someone sent me a box of these I would be over the moon. My favourite was definitely the strawberry chocolate one.
My Overall Thoughts On Emmy’s Brigadeiro
I really enjoyed receiving this box of delicious sweet treats. They are more than just receiving a box of chocolates as these feel really special. I also like that I got to try something traditional from another country that I otherwise wouldn’t have been able to. The brigadeiros feel really indulgent and as I mentioned earlier, they would make a really lovely gift for someone. They’d suit any occasion too as a one-off box. Or for a birthday or Christmas gift, perhaps the 3-month plan would be lovely to gift to that special person or to the foodies in your life.
I really recommend you try these heavenly Brazilian dessert truffles for yourself, so you can experience the deliciousness of Emmy’s Brigadeiro!
