Your wedding undoubtedly should be one of the happiest and most memorable days of your life. One of the most important things couples probably decide on first is the wedding venue. Choosing the perfect setting to celebrate their special day.
I actually got married in 1995 and I never had the big white wedding. I convinced myself back then that I didn’t want to go down the traditional route, with a white dress, church ceremony etc. Instead, we decided to have a very low key Registry Office ceremony. Only very close friends and immediate family were invited. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the day but it didn’t feel as special as it could have. I barely remember anything about my wedding day.
Now I’m older, I do actually regret that decision and wish I had opted for a big wedding, with the white dress and bridesmaids and of course a beautiful wedding venue too.
Pick A Date
The first thing I would definitely choose to do is to pick the date – obviously! You can’t exactly plan anything till the date for the wedding is decided upon. Ideally, I’d love a late Spring or early Summer wedding. All the lush greenery and flowers, along with the blue skies just look so beautiful in wedding photos. I actually got married a week before December the first time. It was such a wet, cold and dreary day. Definitely not stuff that dreams are made of, that is for sure!
Keep your options open though for dates, as your first choice may not be available. This might depend on how far in advance you will be booking though. To have a big dream wedding, it’s not going to be something you can plan in six months.
Budget
Ahhh, the budget. Yes, before contemplating anything else it’s best to work out how much you want to spend on your dream wedding. Figure out how many guests you’ll have, how much you want to spend on the venue, photographer, catering, flowers, wedding dress etc There are so many things to budget for, it can be easy to forget some of the smaller things.
You may want to hire a wedding planner to take all the stress off your hands. If like me, you enjoy list-making and planning, it may be something you will actually enjoy.
Decide On A Wedding Venue
The wedding venue is so very important I think. It has to be somewhere that is going to make your day even more special. If you choose to have your wedding in the warmer months you might want an outside venue. Personally, I would love to have a civil ceremony at my chosen wedding venue too. Somewhere that offered both indoor and outdoor venues, would be ideal.
I have to admit that I really love the idea of a big country house, set in gorgeous surroundings. It would just be so beautiful! Somewhere like Botleys Mansion would be absolutely amazing! I think it would make the day feel quite magical to get married in such a beautiful setting.
It definitely appeals to the little girl inside me who has always wanted to be a princess for a day! That is the only time I will ever admit that as I am definitely not a typical ‘girly girl’. A place like that though would make my dream come true.
It’s really never too late to have the wedding of your dreams though. No matter your age or even if you have been married before. You could even renew your vows and get to have that special day if you feel you missed out on it the first time.
Why not make new memories and have the wedding you have always dreamed of at your ideal venue!
