How to Check or Inspect Your Tyre Condition

March 28, 2021 in Lifestyle - No Comments

AD || Keeping a strict check on your car tyres is an essential part of owning a vehicle. Your tyres are the only component of the vehicle that is in touch with the road, therefore, they should be kept in their best possible condition. During this long lockdown, many of us may have stopped going to mechanics and so if you are wondering how to inspect your tyre condition at home, well! here’s your guide:

How to Check or Inspect Your Tyre Condition

How to Check Your Tyre Condition in 3 Easy Steps

1. Start with Checking Your Tread Depth

The law requires a tyre to have a minimum tread depth of 1.6mm. You need to check your tyre tread depth in order to make sure that you have enough traction to grip the road. To check your tyre tread depth at home, always opt for the penny test. Place a penny upside down in your tread. If you happen to see the top of Lincoln’s head, then its time to replace your tyres.

2. Keeping a Check on Tyre Pressure

Tyres should always be inflated to their optimum tyre pressure in order to improve their performance and increase their longevity. Under or overinflated tyres can cause uneven tyre wear and cause early tyre replacement. Use a tyre pressure gauge to make sure that your tyres are properly inflated and then get your tyres filled with air as needed. Remember to always fill your tyres to vehicle’s recommended inflation pressure.

3. Look Out for Tyre Age & Condition

Along with keeping a check on tyre tread and tyre pressure, it is also important to visually inspect your tyres every once a week. Look at your tyre tread and sidewalls for any punctures, cuts, bulges, cracks or bumps. If you happen to notice anything unusual, do consult a professional.

Another important thing to look out for is your tyre age. You don’t only need a tyre replacement when your tyre is damaged or when your tyre tread has worn out. Tyres should be replaced when they have aged. By that we mean, tyres should be replaced 10 years after the date of their manufacture. You can buy tyres online in Kent easily at Dartford Tyres. They charge no upfront payment on online bookings. Pretty quick & easy!

Follow all these simple and doable tips to always inspect your tyre condition and keep them well-maintained and yourself safe!
