I don’t know about you guys but we’ve been having thunderstorms where I live and I have been loving it! Usually, when there’s a thunderstorm it’s late at night but they’ve been in the mid to late afternoon, so it’s meant I can enjoy every minute of it! These past few weeks have been a bit of a mare though. My right shoulder had started to ache really badly and I knew I should have rested it but of course, I didn’t and so my rotator cuff has torn. Of course, my right shoulder/arm is my dominant one so doing anything is incredibly painful at the moment. Hence why I am so late with the Degusta Box for April 2023.
I’m prone to rotator cuff injury as it first tore back in my early 20s due to arthritis. It took months to heal and ever since then, it will just randomly tear. Like I just said this will take a few months to heal; in my experience, about 6 months give or take. Then, the last couple of days I’ve had incredible head pain that has knocked me out. It’s not a headache or even a migraine, it’s a lot more painful than either of those. It’s from one of the illnesses I have. But anyway, less of my annoying health issues, l will get on with my review of the April 2023 Degusta Box!
What is Degusta Box All About?
So, if you are new here and have never heard of Degusta Box UK I’ll quickly explain what it is and how it works.
Degusta Box UK is a monthly subscription box that contains between 10-15 items each month, most of which are new to the market. The products are chosen and put together by a team of specialists who look for foods that are versatile, innovative, and delicious. You can read some of my reviews for previous boxes here. It costs £12.99 per month. You can also find a discount at the end of the post. So, that means you’ll pay just £7.99 for your first box!
Degusta Box April 2023 Theme & Contents
So, last month we had ‘Hello Spring’ as the theme and this month, April’s box features products with the theme of ‘All Around the World. There’s a total of 13 products this month too.
What’s In The Box? Sweet Treats
Chupa Chups® Mini Bag (rrp £1.86)
I think Chupa Chups® is so well known that you’d have to have been living under a rock to have never heard of them. This bag of 18 minis is everything you love about Chupa Chups® lollipops but half the size. Still in 4 fab flavours: Cola, Strawberry, Orange and Apple!
Available at Asda, Home Bargains, WHSmiths & at Ocado.
Product of the Month
Plantastic Protein Boost Satay Noodles with Sweet Red Pepper and Cajun Rice with Tomato and Pepper (£1.15)
These protein boost pots from Plantastic make a really quick and easy meal or snack. They only take 5 minutes to make! Surprisingly – because I always expect plant-based items to taste terrible – they were incredibly tasty; really full of flavour! Really happy to have discovered these in April’s box! You would have received both of these in the box.
Available from Tesco
What’s in the Box? Recipe Mixes
Maggi So Juicy Butter Chicken and Sweet Chilli Halloumi Recipe Mix (£0.99 each)
We love Maggi noodles so we were really pleased to be able to try these recipe mixes. We have only tried the Butter Chicken mix so far, but it was absolutely delicious. It was so easy to make, so no stress or hassle; just an incredibly tasty meal we all enjoyed.
Available in major supermarket chains
What’s in the Box? Savoury
Mission Wraps Original Mini Wraps and Mission Wheat & White Mini Wraps (£1.20 each)
These mini wraps are just the same as their original wraps but Taco sized. This makes them perfect for kids’ lunch boxes. So many options of what to put in them and a great alternative to sandwiches too!
Available from Tesco, Sainsbury's and Asda
Serious Pig Snacking Cheese (£1.60)
You would have received one of 2 flavours in your April box. I had 2 boxes so I actually received both flavours, one in each box. I love the texture of these, lovely and crunchy and you can really taste the cheese. However, I did not like the truffle ones at all. I have to be honest and say I thought they were just horrible. If that’s what truffle tastes like then I will make sure to stay well clear of it; it must be an aquired taste.
Out of all six of us, only one of my sons thought it was just ‘okay’. That said, the caramelised onion flavour was miles better. Most of us liked that flavour. I’d actually love to try just a cheese one with no other flavours added.
Available on Serious Pig's Web Shop, Amazon and at Sainsburys
Idahoan Mash Perfect Buttery Mash or Perfect Mash Cheddar Cheese (£1.65)
Now I was always a bit of a Cadbury’s Smash mash girl but after tasting these Iadahoan mashes I have been completely converted! Now, you would have received just one of these two flavours in the April box. As mentioned previously I had two boxes this month and luckily I had one of each flavour in each box. The cheddar cheese flavour was just so good. We will definitely buying these in future.
Available at most major supermarket chains and on Ocado and Amazon
What’s In The Box? Cereals
Kellogg’s® Coco Pops Chocos (£3.29)
These new Kellogg’s® Coco Pops Chocos have the familiar Coco Pops chocolatey taste but with a real crunchy texture. If you love the orginals then I am absolutely sure you will love these too!
Available in major supermarket chains
What’s In The Box? Drinks
Yogi Tea® Detox , Immune Support, Stomach Ease (£2.75 each)
You would have received one of three available flavours in your box. From the two boxes I had, I got the Detox and the Immune support teas. These are organic and ayuverdic teas and have a unique blend of herbs and spices. You’ll find a yoga exercise on each pack and also yogic wisdom on each tea-tag. I really liked the Immune Support tea as I do enjoy a more fuity tea. The Detox one was not for me though, I don’t like cinnamon or liquorice.
Available on Ocado, Amazon & at Holland & Barrett, plus many independent health stores. Selected products in Morrisons and Waitrose.
Double Dutch Cranberry & Ginger Tonic (£0.90)
I don’t like Tonic Water at all so I didn’t try this myself. Andy tried this one with some dark rum though and said it was really nice and paired well the rum. He does love ginger though & that bit of spiciness it gives. You would have received one of two flavours in your April box. I actually got the same flavour in both of my boxes.
Available at Waitrose, Ocado, Tesco and on Amazon
Punchy Drinks Blood Orange, Bitters & Cardamom or Peach, Ginger & Chai or Cucumber, Yuzu & Rosemary (£1.60 each)
You would have received one of three available flavours in the April box. I got the Blood Orange, Bitters & Cardamom on one box and the Cucumber, Yuzu & Rosemary in my second box. I’m sad to say that I didn’t like either of these drinks mainly because I don’t like the majority of the flavours in them. I let the others try it and general consensus was that the cucumber, yuzu & rosemary was ‘okay’ but that the blood orange, bitters & cardamom was ‘quite nice’.
Available at WHSmiths, Planet Organic, Selfridges, Fortnum & Mason, Ole & Steen, Ocado, Amazon and on their website Punchydrinks.com
My Overall Thoughts On The Degusta Box April 2023
The Degusta Box for April 2023 had a really good selection of products.
There were three products that stood out to me in the April box. The first is the the Idahoan Perfect Mash because it literally is perfect. Great flavour, great texture and incredibly quick to make.
Next is the Plantastic Protein Boost pots. These were a really fantastic discovery for me. Full of flavour and just so quick and easy to make too.
Last but by no means least is the Chupa Chups Minis. I love that they are half-size and certainly feel less guilty about eating them. They’re still full of flavour – my favourite is the Cola!
