AD | When it comes to makeup I tend to rely on a few products that I know are fail-proof and deliver the results I want every time – my makeup must haves if you will. I have a ‘go to look’ that has served me very well over the years. It’s quite timeless and consists of neutral eye shadow, the perfect black winged eyeliner, mascara, simple blush & highlight and a beautiful red lip.
It’s a look that can be easily turned into a more glamorous night time look if you need to go from day to night quickly and easily. It’s just such a classic look and looks beautiful no matter how you wear it.
I’m not a big fan of foundations and I will usually try and get away with a tinted moisturiser or a BB cream. Honestly though, if my skin looks good I won’t even contemplate using any kind of coverage.
So that said, let me tell you my 5 Makeup Must Haves!
1. A NEUTRAL EYE SHADOW Palette
This had to be the first choice of my 5 makeup must haves – a neutral eye shadow palette! The NYX Professional Make Up Ultimate Shadow Palette in Warm Neutrals has the perfect shade range. It can easily take you from a very simple, barely there eye look to a darker, smokey eye for the night. Comprising of 16 beautiful shades, 7 shimmers and 9 mattes, I find it compliments blue eyes especially. Though being such a neutral palette I think I’m pretty safe in saying that it would suit a lot of eye colours and complexions.
The shadows are very pigmented so they have a really nice colour payoff. There’s little to no fallout too, which I love! Nothing more annoying when doing your makeup than having loads of fallout when applying eyeshadow!
Really soft and buttery, these eye shadows are also very easy to apply and blend. You can see the swatches of the palette taken in natural light. in the images below.
2. A Black Liquid liner
You can’t have those perfect cat flicks without a really great liquid liner, just like my second makeup must have – NYX Professional Makeup Epic Ink Liner in Black. A good winged eyeliner looks fabulous worn simply with mascara – a firm favourite of mine. Plus, it will finish off a smokey eye for a real statement.
I usually wear a winged liner together with a fairly light, neutral eye shadow all over my lid & a slightly darker shade in my crease. It is barely noticeable but just enough to add definition to the eye. It works so well for everyday eye makeup.
The NYX Professional Makeup Epic Ink Liner has such a fine tip, which is just what you need when creating a sharp winged eyeliner. It’s nice and pigmented too, so when it says black, it really is a rich black. It doesn’t look faded or like a dark grey trying to pass off as black. The tip is also flexible which means I can swipe it across my lid with ease and create my perfect wing. Definitely worthy of a spot in my 5 Makeup Must Haves for sure!
3. A Blush, Highlight & Contour Palette
So, on to my third choice for my 5 Makeup Must Haves! It is the Ultra Blush Golden Sugar Palette from Revolution Beauty. Although this is described as a blush palette it actually has the perfect contour, blush and highlights shades for me. So I can use one palette to do all three!
The shades are just gorgeous and really pigmented with only a really tiny amount of fallout as well. The swatches don’t really do them justice if I’m honest as the light doesn’t quite capture the shimmer on some of the shades.
They are just such good blushes and I love the shimmer the white shade gives when used as a highlighter. The two matte shades are perfect for contouring or bronzing if you’re fair or pale skinned. The palette would still work well for darker complexions as blushes or highlighters but I think you’d have to get a separate contour or bronzer.
4. A Black Mascara
I think if there was one makeup item that I would simply have to have above all others, it would be mascara. It makes such a massive difference to the eyes. This NYX Professional Makeup Worth The Hype Mascara is really good. It not only helps to lengthen your lashes but also adds volume to them too.
Personally, I prefer a mascara that doesn’t clump lashes together or makes them look like spider legs. This mascara gives my lashes length and volume but doesn’t look clumpy at all. The tapered brush is a great help to get the smaller lashes in the inner corner of the eye too.
5. Red Liquid Lip tint
Anyone that knows me remotely at all, would probably have guessed that this would be in my 5 Makeup Must Haves. I absolutely love a red lip and of course, it’s synonymous with a black cat flick. It’s bold, classy and absolutely timeless in my opinion; it’s also very me!
There were quite a few red liquid lip tints and lipsticks that I could have chosen from, so narrowing it down to one was actually quite hard. In the end, it had to be this Touch In Sol Pretty Filter Chiffon Velvet Lip Tint in Modern Red.
Why did I ultimately decide on this liquid lip tint? I chose it because it’s not drying to my lips; in fact, it’s actually quite hydrating! The red is THE perfect shade. It is REALLY long lasting, as in it’s not going to budge all day! It has a creamy, satin to a semi-matte finish and well, just look at the colour! It’s gorgeous, isn’t it?
Thoughts on My 5 Makeup Must Haves
Picking just 5 items was not an easy task, as I have a lot of makeup, So I had to really think about what items I simply couldn’t go without. That actually made it a lot easier for me to choose my 5 items.
So, there you have it, my 5 Makeup Must Haves! I could completely rely on these 5 items for everyday looks and would have no problem using them to create more dramatic nighttime looks as well.
With these 5 products, I can make my eyes the feature and just blend the lip tint to give subtle colour. Or I could focus on a bold red lip and a very soft, light eye makeup.
